Requirements


Minimum age 18. The Referee Training and Instruction is designed to develop the highest level of competency possible among all Referees. This development is implemented through a series of training modules and materials relevant to soccer officiating.

ENTRY LEVEL INSTRUCTORS:


Grade 11 Recreational Instructors must successfully complete the Recreational Instructor Course. Recreational Referee Instructors are eligible to teach the Recreational Referee Course (Grade 9) only. Contact Hugh Orlicz at horlicz1@hotmail.com if interested.

Grade 9 Associate Instructors must successfully complete the 16-hour Associate Instructor Course and have experience as a referee. Initial registration will be at the Associate Instructor level.

Please e-mail our office to be considered for the next available Entry Level Instructor Course.  A resume on both your professional and soccer experience should be submitted to the ISRC Office at Info@IllinoisSoccerRefereeCommittee.org.  In addition to basic requirements, you are required to:

  1.  Pass the Recertification exam with a minimum of 85%.
  2. Organize, present lesson, and submit to an evaluation in a timed session.

Before requesting an upgrade to Grade 7 Referee Instructor, you must perform satisfactorily for at least one year as an Associate Instructor, and successfully complete the 24-hr. Instructional Theory Into Practice (ITIP) Course. A resume on your professional and soccer experience should be submitted to the ISRC Office at info@illinoisosccerrefereecommittee.org. Please refer to the Referee Administrative Handbook ("National Instruction Program" found in the Table of Contents) for all requirements on becoming an Instructor.

The instructional and training aspect of referee development comprises of two segments, the first of which is designed to help candidates reach the next higher level through a series of Entry Level and Upgrading Courses. The second segment is designed to help referees maintain and improve their refereeing competency through In-Service Training (Clinics).

Each of these two segments contains six categories of expertise:

  • Laws of the Game
  • The Diagonal System of Control and Game Management Techniques
  • Refereeing Psychology, Discretion and People Management Techniques
  • Personal Management
  • Fitness
  • Administrative Skills, Reports
